Scan Books in the Genealogy Room

Merrillville Branch and Dyer-Schererville Branch have a special scanner designed specifically for genealogy and local history research! This station is designed for patrons who wish to make digital copies of books or documents. It is not connected to a printer.

This scanner is special because it protects the spines of books while creating a more accurate digital copy than a flatbed scanner might. If you need help using it, please ask a staff member!

The Merrillville Branch scan station is located in the Genealogy Room on the main level. The Dyer-Schererville scan station is located near study rooms 3 and 4.

How Does it Work?

To use the scan and fax station, go to the Genealogy Room behind the information desk on the main level of the Merrillville branch.

You can:

  • Scan items directly to a USB stick (see where to plug it in)

  • Scan items to your Google Drive

  • Scan items to email

  • Translate documents to another language (10 page limit, 65 languages to choose from)

  • Scan text to an audio file (5 page limit)
