Ingrid Norrise, LCPL Director

From the Director

A library is information. It's education. We're a place where you can go to find the answer to any question, whether through accessing the Internet or by asking our information specialists. Everything we do, every class we provide, is dedicated to furthering our mission: to give everyone, regardless of social class or circumstance of birth, the opportunity to improve his or her life.

We're here because we believe that everyone deserves that chance. As James Truslow Adams put it in his 1931 book The Epic of America, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement." We want that for every person who walks through our doors.

Everyone needs something different to achieve their "better and richer and fuller" life, and it is our goal to support them all. That's why we have English as a second language classes for adults, pre-literacy classes for kids, and computer-literacy classes for anyone who needs them. That's why we provide one-on-one technology support to help you learn to use your devices. If you need help filing for unemployment, you can do that here. Looking for the perfect college, or trying to find a grant to start your own business? Head to the library.

We're here because we believe in the individuals who make up our community. By providing you with the tools you need to learn and grow and succeed, we know that we're not just helping one person, but strengthening our communities as well.

We know that what we do may change but as your needs change, the library changes to match. Once upon a time, people who wanted to educate themselves needed textbooks. Today, you need digital resources and Internet access. You need to download, to upload, to connect, to meet up. We'll help you do that. And whatever you need in the future to keep improving, we'll provide that too – after all, we're a library, and we're here because we believe in you. We're here because you are. There's no better reason.

So, when in doubt, when you have questions, when you're not sure what comes next: turn to the library. We believe in you, and we'll help you get what you need.

And if what you need is simply a good book... well, we have those too.
